The Summer of Innovation is a 3 month initiative developed to cultivate innovation, creativity and grit in the youth of the City of Phoenix. All summer long, the CO+HOOTS Foundation is offering STEAM building challenges for kids in the CO+HOOTS coworking space; in June, we are hosting the LITAS4Girls conference with nationally recognized coder and innovator Anvita Gupta at the helm teaching girls from around the city to code; we will hold documentary screenings, coding clubs and finally, at the end of August; to close out an awesome summer, the CO+HOOTS Foundation is putting on the first Southwest StartUp Weekend for Youth! These activities engage young people in leadership, problem solving and collaboration to build a culture of determination and connection.
The program consists of 3 foundations.
Building off our tremendously successful programs at Code Day and learning from the innovative StartUp Weekend events, we built a curriculum that encourages engaged learning and collaborative working.
Students will ideate a product, build teams and work with their peers to transform an idea into a real product.
Summer of Innovation places students in a true-to-life start-up environment and provides them with mentors who will help these budding entrepreneurs work toward their finished product.
Using coding as an educational medium allows students to tap their natural abilities to Construct, Create, Explore and Evaluate.
Summer of Innovation provides targeted skills development, offering an introduction to design, development and business structure.
Our program allows students to form teams and timelines on their own to develop crucial leadership, collaborative and problem-solving skills that all of today’s successful entrepreneurs need.
Summer of Innovation challenges students to band together to develop a viable product and present it in a professional environment to their peers and mentors.
