MIDWEEK MINDTWEAK: Yes, And: Three Improv Concepts to Inspire Thought Leadership
January 18, 2017 @ 12:30 am - 1:30 pmFree
Notorious for comedy, improvisation is an art form practicing in-the-moment creativity. Beyond the jokes, improv is a lifestyle of communication and connectivity with many shared qualities of influential leaders. In this interactive workshop, I’ll detail three important improv concepts that have helped me become a better leader, business developer, and communicator.
Recruiting, developing, and retaining talent requires a company culture built on respect and inclusiveness for all. Company culture is the implicit workplace environment formed from workplace behaviors and values. Companies such as Google, Pixar, and PepsiCo have implemented similar improv techniques to reach their branding and company culture goals. Employees that fit with a company culture feel understood, tend to develop better coworker relationships, want to stay with a company longer, and are even more productive. As leaders, we can use these improv techniques to form a safe environment for the professional and personal growth of your team.
Participants will gain skills applicable to team brainstorming, mentoring, difficult conversations, strategy meetings, active listening, and creative ways to approach problem solving. These three concepts are immediately applicable and will empower you as a leader. This workshop will put these concepts into practice with group exercises for participants to bring back to their teams!
This memorable workshop has been enjoyed at the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Arizona and the Southern Arizona Architects and Engineers Marketing Association (SAAEMA). The workshop has been selected for the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) National Conference in June 2017.
Jennifer Giralo is a marketing professional in the construction industry, but in her free time, she is an improviser. She has been studying improv for over eight years.
